America's last wave of defense against Yankeedom, Midwestern Blandness, and Nashville "country" music

"Are You Ready for the Country?"

When Neil Young (ironically enough a Canadian) asked that question back in '68 he was talking about the then-fashionable trend of adding a dollop of Webb Pierce to your rock'n'roll music (See The Byrds, The Flying Burrito Brothers, etc.).

As the post-post-modern 21st century gets underway, the same questions has been answered implicitly (and emphatically) 'Hell No!" by the popular culture of the United States; and the results can be seen everywhere:

Colonel Reb, the much-beloved Southern gentleman mascot at Ole Miss, is being "phased out" due to concerns over the good Colonel's legacy.

Country Music Radio, long the last bastion of the south-of-the-Mason-Dixon lifestyle, has been dominated for a deacde now by reprocessed "classic" rock.

Worst of all, Atlanta, GA (the defacto capital of the South) seems to be growing more like New York City with every transplanted Yankee that hops of a 737 at Hartsfeld.

In a world that seems so far removed from what it used to mean to be Southern, it seems like past time for a counteroffensive.

Well welcome aboard.

If the Good Lord's willin' and the creeks don't rise, we'll see you soon
Chris
